nature landscape leisure time
The Ems meadowy landscape and the Dümmert-Insel have become centres of attraction and green leisure areas for both the inhabitants of Telgte and guests. The adjacent Emsauen Park offers ideal conditions so that small creatures and plants can develop undisturbed in habitats. Small lakes and ponds complement the landscape.
Outside the city gates, is another recreation and conservation area: the Klatenberge where the ice age left sand dunes that tower the meadows by 14 metres in the dense pine forest. With its sand and forest areas, this local recreation area in the north of the town is also an Eldorado for joggers and walkers. Sport loving guests who like walking and biking in the Münsterland region are always welcome in Telgte. The gentle and careful way of dealing with nature is a matter of course, in particular with regard to tourist marketing. Guided walks and bicycle tours impart subject-related contents.
Several bicycle tours of trans-regional importance cross the city area. The Ems-Radweg and the Friedensroute count among the first set of bicycle tours nationwide. They have already been honoured by the Ministry of traffic and economy, by the ADFC NRW and by the federal association of the ADFC as bicycle routes of the year in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia due to their quality and their impressive location.
Along the premium bicycle route of the Münsterland e.V. association, the “100 Schlösser Route“, the former aristocratic estate Haus Langen invites its guests to enjoy a picturesque landscape. The connection to four long-distance trails and the Münsterland-Reitroute increases the recreational value of Telgte. People who go on foot from the French Atlantic coast or cycle on the R1 bicycle route towards Saint Petersburg will have an opportunity to rest in Telgte.
Telgte has been connected to the Westphalian Way of St. James since 2015. The route leads from Bielefeld via Telgte and Borken to Wesel where it connects with the Rhenish paths leading towards Santiago de Compostela.
The forest swimming pool with its vast green areas and its old stock of trees near the local Klatenberg recreation area offers sportiness and recreation. Numerous biotopes and ponds at the Telgte golf course “Gut Hahues” are the habitat of indigenous plants and animals. Embedded in the picturesque park landscape of the Münsterland region, the course offers golfing in a delightful and quiet landscape.
Under good thermal conditions hot-air balloons take off in the early morning and evening hours “from one of the most beautiful German take-off sites”. The preparation of the colourful balloons is a wonderful spectacle. On nice summer days, glider pilots make their rounds in the sky above Telgte. The Münster-Telgte airfield has become the destination of various expeditions whether by land or air due to its location. Sports planes, motor glides and ultra-light aircraft take off and land here.
