The Kultur- und Tagungszentrum Bürgerhaus Telgte has been successfully staging music, comedy and cabaret shows for more than 25 years now. This is where numerous TVstars perform their repertoires - a reason why Telgte has obtained an excellent trans-regional reputation. Lighthouse projects such as the 2011 Trash-People exhibition of the internationally renowned artist HA Schult also contribute to gaining attention to the town.
Inspired by the narrative “Das Treffen in Telgte“ written by Günter Grass, writers meet periodically to discuss current political issues. Such meetings are supplemented by a variety of events by the local societies and associations. Thus, Telgte is able to offer its guests and citizens various forms of entertainment.
The Planwiese - an ideal area for major events - is located in direct proximity of the old town. The most important event is the “Mariä-Geburts-Markt“ - the largest horse fair and flea market in the Münsterland region taking place annually in mid-September including a fair and a top-level riding and jumping tournament that attracts up to 40,000 visitors.
The crib exhibition is a major attraction during the winter months. It takes place in the museum RELíGIO and has attracted an astonishing variety of nativity scenes every year for decades now.
In the framework of a common initiative, citizens of the town of Telgte founded an association in 1998, the purpose of which was to bear in remembrance the Jews that had lived in Telgte. In view of the fact that the major part of material evidence of the Jewish culture was destroyed during the Nazi period, the gravestones of the Jewish cemetery have become testimonies in stone with a special contemplative and memorable value. Upon the initiative of the Telgte association, the cemetery was redesigned in 2005. A glass stela commemorates the victims.
A gallery place on the upper floor of the museum - the former corn attic - regularly serves as an exhibition space where interesting objects of contemporary art are shown. Also, to be recommended is a visit to the traditional handicraft businesses.
It is here where masters of their craft have been creating the most diverse pots on their wheels since 1888.
